Privacy policy
Last updated November 6, 2026
The short version: Stylemark doesn't collect, sell or share any personal data. Your writing is checked on your Mac and stays there. The app has no account, no analytics and no tracking. This website counts visits without cookies and without identifying you. The only personal information we ever receive is an email you choose to send us.
Who this policy covers
This policy covers the Stylemark app for macOS and this website, stylemark.app. Both are published by Detroit Game Studio, LLC (“we”, “us”).
What the app collects
Nothing. Stylemark has no account or sign-in, and it contains no analytics, advertising, crash reporting or third-party tracking code. We can't see what you write, and we don't build profiles of anyone. On the App Store, Stylemark is listed as “Data Not Collected.”
How your writing is checked
Every check runs on your Mac:
- Style rules, both the built-in newsroom rules and any rule folders you add, run inside the app.
- Grammar checks come from Harper, an open-source grammar checker built into the app.
- Spelling uses the spelling checker built into macOS.
- Names and the thesaurus use Apple's on-device language tools and a word database that ships with the app.
- Headline ideas and Tighten use Apple Intelligence's on-device model through Apple's Foundation Models framework. Your text goes to the model on your Mac, not to a server. These two features only work when you've turned on Apple Intelligence; Apple's own privacy terms cover Apple Intelligence itself.
What's stored on your Mac
- Your documents are ordinary Markdown or text files, saved wherever you choose.
- Settings, including your word list, rules you've turned off and the rule folders you've added, are kept in the app's preferences.
- Folder permissions. Stylemark runs in the macOS app sandbox and can only open files and folders you choose. To keep access to a folder you granted, such as a project folder or a rule folder, it saves a bookmark that macOS issues for that folder.
- False-positive reports. When you use Report False Positive, Stylemark saves a copy of the report (the rule, its message, the flagged words and the sentence around them) in its own folder on your Mac, before opening the email described below.
These stay on your Mac. If your documents are in a folder that syncs, such as iCloud Drive or Dropbox, or your Mac is backed up, that service handles those files under its own terms.
When the app uses the network
Stylemark doesn't contact us or any service of ours. It connects to the internet only in these cases, each caused by something in your document or something you do:
- Images in the preview. If a document includes an image by web address, such as
, the preview downloads that image from the server it names. That server receives the request like any web download, including your IP address. Nothing from your document is sent with it. Scripts in a document never run in the preview. - Links. Selecting a link in the preview opens it in your web browser, not inside Stylemark.
- Reports by email. Report False Positive opens a new message in your email app, addressed to us, with the report in it. You can read it, change it or discard it. It's only sent if you send it.
macOS may download language or Apple Intelligence model data on its own schedule. Those downloads are made by the operating system, from Apple, not by Stylemark.
Email you send us
If you email us, by writing to support or by sending a false-positive report, we receive your email address, your name if your email app includes it, and whatever the message contains. A false-positive report contains the flagged words and the sentence around them, not your whole document. We use these messages only to answer you and to fix rules that flag correct writing. We don't add you to a mailing list, sell your messages or share them with anyone. Ask us and we'll delete them.
This website
stylemark.app is a static website. It sets no cookies and runs no advertising or cross-site tracking.
To count visits, the site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which loads one script from Cloudflare. For each page view it reports the page, the site that linked to it, your browser and device type, your country and how fast the page loaded. It doesn't use cookies or fingerprinting to recognize you or to follow you to other sites. We see only totals, such as how many visits each page had. Apart from that script, the site loads no fonts, scripts or other files from other sites.
The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which also keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to deliver and protect the site.
Children
Stylemark is a writing tool for a general audience, not one aimed at children. We collect no personal information from anyone, children included.
Your rights
Privacy laws such as the GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act give you rights over personal data a company holds about you. The app holds nothing about you on any server: your writing and settings are on your own Mac, where you can view, move or delete them. The only personal data we can hold is email you've sent us. You can ask us to show you, correct or delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Stylemark handles information, we'll update this page and the date at the top before a version of the app with that change is released.
